Back in 2002, Pat McDonald, who owned three children’s stores at the time, noticed that her teenage daughters were driving to Birmingham for their clothes.
“It dawned on me that Montgomery needed a boutique, and Painted Pink was born,” said Pat. Painted Pink, in Montgomery’s Mulberry Business District, will celebrate its 15th anniversary next year.
Today, Painted Pink carries more than 60 lines of clothing to fit any budget. Many of the designers and brands you’ll find at Painted Pink, you won’t find anywhere else in Montgomery or the surrounding areas. The team travels to market in Atlanta and New York seven times a year to stay on top of the latest fashion trends and brings them back to Alabama’s capital city.
The “Pink Ladies” as they call themselves, are well known for their style and helpfulness. They take pride in making their customers look and feel good for all kinds of special occasions.
“I love my customers – who I consider friends! It is so much fun to take part in their important life events – dances, graduation, sorority rush, and weddings. I have a great team at Painted Pink, and I enjoy coming to work every day – it is a fun environment,” said Pat.
Pat and her team say commitment to their customers and the causes that matter to them is also an important part of the way they do business.
“We are so grateful to the community for the support we get, and we love to give back! We support many local organizations by donating for silent auctions. There is so much need – we try to help in whatever way we can!,” added Pat.
Painted Pink has 10 employees, two of whom are full time. Pat explained that many girls who work for her in high school come back when they come home from college for summer and holidays to work.
“Once they become a “Pink Lady,” they are one for life,” she said.
The store at 1941 Mulberry St. in Montgomery is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. You can also find Painted Pink on Facebook and Instagram.
“Social media has transformed our business! We post daily pictures of new arrivals, and we usually sell out within hours. As soon we post the phone starts ringing! We also love to share pictures customers tag us in, showing their cute outfits at fun occasions,” Pat said.
